University of Missouri report H46109H-1 · March 29, 2018. Public sample for tomatoes and blueberries. The separate growing-area dimensions were not saved, so rates are stated per 100 sq ft.
This soil test supports two different crop decisions. The tomato and blueberry requirements are incompatible and must remain physically separate.
For tomatoes, the derived water-equivalent pH is about 5.95, below QMA's midpoint target of 6.5 within the supported 6.0–7.0 range. Bray-1 phosphorus supports a correction.
For blueberries, the tested soil requires a separate, crop-specific amendment program. Calcium is 5,253 lb/acre and organic matter is 2.6%, so QMA lowers pH in stages, increases acidic organic matter, and keeps the blueberry bed separate from the limed tomato bed.
| Crop area | Recommendation per 100 sq ft |
|---|---|
| Tomato bed | 2.5 lb fish bone meal 3-16-0 and 10 lb agricultural lime |
| Blueberry bed | Apply 1.5 lb finely ground elemental sulfur per 100 sq ft and incorporate a 2-inch layer of aged pine bark or similarly acidic, well-finished organic material. Retest before any second sulfur application. |
Apply 2.5 lb fish bone meal 3-16-0 per 100 sq ft. It supplies the released phosphorus correction. Its other material nutrient contributions are accounted for.
Apply 10 lb agricultural lime per 100 sq ft, the area-scaled form of the laboratory's 100 lb per 1,000 sq ft recommendation. Do not substitute wood ash.
Add no separate preplant nitrogen product. Do not automatically add potassium from the printed fertility guideline. That guideline is preserved as context, not treated as a measured soil target.
Apply 1.5 lb finely ground elemental sulfur per 100 sq ft. Incorporate it evenly through the normal cultivated layer with a 2-inch layer of aged pine bark or a similarly acidic, well-finished organic material. This begins the pH adjustment toward the blueberry range while improving the low organic-matter condition.
Do not lime, add wood ash or fish bone meal, or import tomato-bed soil into the blueberry zone. No separate phosphorus or potassium amendment is added from this report because it does not provide a blueberry-calibrated target for those values.
Keep tomato and blueberry zones physically separate. Weigh products and scale only from the actual treated area.
| Stage | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Measure the tomato bed. Product total = released rate × tomato area ÷ 100. |
| 2 | For each 100 sq ft, weigh 2.5 lb fish bone meal 3-16-0; verify the product label. |
| 3 | For each 100 sq ft, weigh 10 lb agricultural lime. Spread both tomato materials uniformly and incorporate through the normal cultivated layer before planting. |
| 4 | Do not add separate preplant N or automatically add K from the printed fertility guideline. |
| 5 | Keep the blueberry bed away from lime, wood ash, concrete runoff and standing water. |
| 6 | For each 100 sq ft of blueberry bed, apply 1.5 lb finely ground elemental sulfur and incorporate a 2-inch layer of aged pine bark or similarly acidic, well-finished organic material through the normal cultivated layer. |
| 7 | Retest the blueberry bed after the first sulfur application has reacted; use that result before making any further pH or nutrient correction. |
Retest the tomato bed after lime has reacted and before another major correction. Retest the blueberry bed after the first sulfur application before planting or making another sulfur application.
The tomato target requires pH to rise, whereas blueberries need a substantially more acidic root zone. QMA keeps the crop areas separate and uses elemental sulfur plus acidic organic matter in the blueberry bed, while avoiding any material that would add liming value or calcium.
The released phosphorus action is supplied by fish bone meal 3-16-0. Its nitrogen and calcium contributions are recognized.
The tomato pH action follows the laboratory recommendation on a per-area basis. Wood ash is not substituted because its nutrients and liming effects differ from this released recommendation.
The first elemental-sulfur application is deliberately staged at 1.5 lb per 100 sq ft. Sulfur reacts over time and the soil has high calcium, so QMA requires a retest before releasing any additional sulfur rather than assuming the complete pH change in one application.
This plan is specific to the identified soil, crops and conditions. QMA's internal target database and selection methods remain proprietary.

No whole-bed tomato total is invented because the separate bed dimensions were not saved. Scale only from the actual measured area. Printed annual fertilizer guidance is not represented as a measured target.
